Simple Life Strategy: 5 Steps to be Less Frustrated
1. Become aware. Notice when those feelings of frustration start to creep up on you.
2. Identify why you are frustrated. Is it because you are trying to control something?
3. Remember the saying ‘What you resist persists.’ Know that if you keep resisting whatever is happening to you, more of it will show up in your life.
4. Consider if you are thinking about what you don’t want. Remember that this is essentially negative thinking in action and is to be avoided at all costs.
5. Accept what’s happening. Simply let go of trying to control your situation and accept it. Instead of fighting life, flow with it and notice how much easier things become.

The best remedy for mind trickery and self-sabotage is greater awareness of the issue. We need to learn so much more about how the mind works and why. We need to explore our psychological attachment to negativity so we can recognize it and let go.
To enjoy a more positive, successful and self-disciplined life, we need to learn how we fool ourselves into getting the opposite of what we want.

Dealing with pain
1. Developing emotional intelligence.
2. Learning to sit with negative feelings.
3. Creating situations for positive feelings.
Pain is part of life, and we can’t avoid it by resisting it. We can only minimize it by accepting it and dealing with it well.
That means feeling the pain and knowing it will pass. No feeling lasts forever. It means sitting in the discomfort and waiting before acting. There will come a time when you feel healed and empowered.
Our power comes from realizing we don’t need to act on pain; and if we need to diffuse it, we can channel it into something healthy and productive, like writing, painting, or doing something physical.
Pain is sometimes an indication we need to set boundaries, learn to say no more often, or take better care of ourselves; but sometimes it just means that it’s human to hurt, and we need to let ourselves go through it.
We tend to be more reactive than active, but that’s a decision to let the outside world dictate how we feel.
We don’t need to sit around waiting for other people to evoke our feelings. Instead, we can take responsibility to create our own inner world.
We can identify what we want to say yes to in life and choose that before struggling with whether or not to say no to someone else. If you love dancing, take a class. If your greatest passion is writing, start a blog. If you daydream about being a musician, start recording.
Don’t worry about where it’s leading. Do it just because you love it.
***
Negative feelings are only negative if they’re excessive and enduring. We won’t hurt ourselves into eternal misery if we let ourselves feel what we need to.
Still, we don’t have to feel bad nearly as often as we think.
If we choose to foster a sense of inner peace, challenge our perceptions and interpretations when our emotions could use some schooling, and learn to take responsibility for our joy, we can not only minimize pain—we can choose to be a source of pleasure, for ourselves and the people around us.

"Man is almost mad — mad because he is seeking something which he has already got;
mad because he's not aware of who he is;
mad because he hopes, desires and then ultimately, feels frustrated.
Frustration is bound to be there because you cannot find yourself by seeking;
you are already there. The seeking has to stop, the search has to drop..."
~Osho
"One day, I'll be able to detach from holding onto my imperfections with a vicelike grip around a suitcase that is becoming emptier each time I arrive at a new destination in my life.
And eventually, I'll even be able to air out my dirty laundry, wash my unmentionables, and put on a beautiful change of clothes."

Learning more about myself
I have been learning more about myself.
Last night I realized what a defensive and exclusive air I can give off.
I saw a taste of that attitude, and I took out my bad mood wrongly on a friend.
He has forgiven me and I have forgiven myself, I'm just understanding why this happened.
And I think it's cuz sometimes I just want to be alone and can't be so I get feisty at the people I can't avoid.
That's not fair. Especially when this person took me in.
SO,
I resolve to be mindful of my defensive spirit to be more open, soft, and kind even when I don't want to be.
In love and learning,
Jess!

TEDxGreenville - Max Strom - There is No App for Happiness
Movement and Breath
-move body by initiating movement with breath
-we breathe in an auto-pilot way instead of a transformative way
Internet Technology
-some say the Internet will become self-aware by 2030
-explosion of technology, decline in happiness, believes there is a connection
-the way we use it or abuse it
-dedicating ourselves to a virtual life, instead of an actual life
Self-Awareness
-there is no software for becoming self-aware
-one of the first things we as human beings need to do is to become self-aware
-self aware: we understand our motivations, desires and ethics and are able to express them
Breathing
-breathing helps to manage emotional and physical pain, science has acknowledged this with women giving birth- why not in high school? Might help you keep a job and a marriage
Technology
-technology should be used for what's it good for, not for what it's not good for
-all changes are not better
-we have a cellphone now where we can talk to people but it's improved our ability to communicate from anywhere, but has it improved our quality of communication with our loved ones?
-texting is one step up from Morse code
-we're teaching robots to make eye contact bc humans communicate 90% non-verbally,
-we rather communicate non-verbally through texting, using smiley faces to humanize
Reptilian Selves
-reptilian mind, we all have it: should I run from it? can I eat it? can I kill with it? can I have sex with it? can I make money with it?
-Internet financed: Defense Department- kill with it
-#1 business on the Internet: pornography by far
-can order in with it
-it really isn't that difficult, we just haven't been educated
-one of the reasons we are not as happy as we could be is that we are under-educated in terms of happiness
Thing We Need to Do
1) Ask ourselves questions
-vague, not concrete notion of ethics,
What are my ethics? what do I stand for? who are my friends?- who can I call at 3 in the morning and they will help me and come?
What would I bring in a suitcase if I had 30 minutes to pack and leave country?- we start to understand more of ourselves by our answers
-if you lose your family or your health, you lose everything
-Joseph Campbell- "sometimes we get to the top of the ladder and realize that we leaned against the wrong wall"
2) Know that Your Time and Your Lifespan are the Same Thing
-every hour you spend, you spend away from someone who loves you
3) Begin a One Hour a Day Regime that Illuminates, Strengthens, and Heals You
-do a cost-benefit analysis, you'll find the time
-how much time do you spend reading the Sports Page? how much time do you spend on social media? playing video games?
Upload from inside, our internal technology and live a life of meaning instead a life of existence. We upload love. We upload kindness. We upload our own happiness. And don't depend on external circumstance to make us that way.
